On April 1st, 2021, class B was replaced by the easier to obtain class B with key number 197 (B197).

You are allowed to drive cars with manual and automatic transmissions in Germany and abroad without restrictions.

Your driver training and test will take place in a car with an automatic transmission. This makes your exam significantly easier and reduces your number of driving hours.

The training for B197 does not take longer than for class B, since you need fewer driving lessons due to the automatic training.

A short driver training course of 450 minutes is integrated into your driver training. This gives you the ability to drive cars with manual transmissions.

After the driver training, you will take a short test drive with your driving instructor.

Previous ownership class B197 and then extension to class BE (trailer):

If you have class B with code number 197, you will receive an automatic restriction with code number 78 when you extend your driving license for the subsequent class BE, C or D, provided that the test for class BE, C, D is taken with an automatic vehicle. However, training and testing for classes BE, C or D is now always carried out in almost all driving schools on a vehicle with an automatic transmission. This means that you have an automatic restriction for classes BE, C or D.

-> A trailer may only be towed with an automatic car.

This automatic limitation could be removed if one proves one's switching competence in a new practical test for class B. No special trips, no theory lessons and no theoretical examination are required for this short training course.

The driving lessons consist of practice lessons and special trips.

Your driving instructor ensures a stress-free learning atmosphere so that you enjoy the training and don't need too many hours.

It goes without saying that your driving instructor is on time and keeps to the driving times.

The first practice sessions take place in a parking lot. The parking lot is near the driving school.

So that you don't drive an hour too much, we have an individual training plan for you.

The special trips are driven at the end of the training.

An exam simulation at the end of your training will help you and your driving instructor to assess whether you will pass the exam successfully.

The number is variable. A minimum number is not specified.
